Close the Loop works closely with the major printer and multifunction manufacturers to provide a FREE collection service to end-users of used printer cartridges and associated consumables. We manage our generic Close the Loop program as well as custom branded programs. The programs are entirely funded by the manufacturers of your print devices, so please support them by using only original cartridges. The manufacturers of cheap compatible cartridges do not take any responsibility for their products after sale.

Collection boxes are installed in thousands of corporate and government workplaces and schools New Zealand wide. If there is a collection box where you work, you can bring in your cartridges from home and drop them into your workplace box.

44,000,000 cartridges recycled!

Since the program’s inception in 2003, 44,000,000 cartridges have been collected!

Although these numbers sound high, unfortunately many millions of cartridges annually still end up in landfill – an unnecessary waste of energy and irreplaceable resources. One printer cartridge may not seem like much, but as you can see, when everyone gets on board the results are astounding.

The program accepts brands of printer cartridge, toner bottle, drum unit and fuser kit from any of the supporting manufacturers listed here.

It is these manufacturers who offer an End of Life (EoL) management solution for their used cartridges nationally to end users.  Covering all costs involved in these take-back programs shows their commitment to offering an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program to their customers.

If you don’t have a collection box at your workplace and if you use a minimum of 3 imaging consumables per month (toner bottles, laser cartridges, drum units, fuser kits, inkjet cartridges etc) from a participating manufacturer, then register for a collection box.

We will supply you with a Starter Kit consisting of box, lid, pre-labelled bags and ties to get you started, along with an information sheet on how the process works. It’s simple and easy to participate. We can then provide you with reporting on what your company is collecting and diverting from landfill; this information can be used in your sustainability reports.

Independent audit

Close the Loop’s operations are independently audited annually to ensure adherence with our brand promise of Zero Waste to Landfill, something we have achieved every year since inception in 2001.
